Myofunctional therapy is an individually tailored programme of simple, targeted exercises for the tongue, lips, and facial muscles. The goal is to retrain the muscles and create healthy oral habits like nasal breathing, correct tongue posture, lip seal and proper swallowing patterns that support overall health and development.

Myofunctional therapy helps with thumb sucking, mouth breathing, tongue thrusting, orthodontic treatment and relapse, snoring, poor sleep, jaw pain and tension and pre and post tongue-tie release and more!.
After your discussion call and prior to your face-to-face session you will be sent a questionnaire to complete. On the day of your first appointment, we’ll start with a comprehensive assessment of breathing, tongue and lip function, swallowing patterns and posture which includes photographs. From there, we will explain if therapy is recommended and what the programme will look like for you or your child.
A typical myofunctional therapy session is personalised to each individual’s needs. Progress is monitored at every stage and the treatment plan is adjusted as required to ensure the desired outcomes are achieved and the oral muscles are effectively retrained. Sessions are conducted online using the MYO KIT BAG (provided) and involve working through targeted exercises in real time. Guidance is provided throughout to correct compensations, adjust movements if discomfort occurs and ensure exercises are performed correctly.
Most programmes run for 12 sessions and last several months. Progress depends on consistency with the exercises (usually 5 minutes twice a day of active exercises where you need to sit and have a mirror and your MYO KIT BAG available). Think of it like training any other muscle - steady practice creates lasting results.

We offer an initial in-person consultation followed by online therapy sessions. Online sessions work really well when meeting fortnightly and are just as effective and convenient as face-to-face sessions for many families.
